Workshops:

Newton's helicopter

A popular workshop is my take on Newton's three laws of motion.  The video clip on the introduction page shows Leo flying 'the 'Newton Helicopter' (Newton didn't get round to making one, so I made it for him).

Using wheelie chairs, Brian the baboon, electric fans and the helicopter, we explore the effects of gravity, friction, air resistance and lift.

What is weight? Can we weigh air? Can we swim in space?

Could we generate our own lift and propulsion with pedal power?

Could we be propelled by a fire extinguisher, a hose pipe or a rocket motor? Or maybe just by throwing Brian?

(no animals will be harmed in this experiment).
